This is a blog about performance improvement of people in organizations. My primary focus will be on the relationship between training and development programs and performance improvement. I will be reporting on ways to measure the impact of training and development programs and ways to increase the impact of these programs and leverage the organization's investment in these programs. Often it is not the workshop, seminar, mentoring, or any of the other methods of facilitating learning that make the difference in performance. Rather, there are organizational factors, such as management support, available resources, timing, and opportunities to apply newly learned knowledge and skills, that make the difference. This organizational perspective on learning and performance will be a strong theme of this blog. I will be reviewing the latest thinking in the field and offering my analysis and commentary. I hope that this site will become a useful resource for anyone whose job it is to improve performance of people in organizations.
